MITCHELL PHELPS

President

3rd Year Marketing & International
Business Double Major

EXPERIENCED – at the ripe age of 14, Mitchell became Class President at Ontario High School (Ohio not Canada) and served as the leader of his peers all four years. Upon arrival at UC, he became the intern to Joe Blizzard, Student Body President 2013-14 as part of SG’s First Year Leadership Program and learned the ropes to UC Student Government early on. An At-Large Senator the following year because “Phelps Helps,” Mitchell dove in deeper while also leading SG’s Student Life Committee and this year served on SG’s exec team as the Treasurer.

VISIONARY – Having a diverse background of experiences around campus, Mitchell has seen all sides of our current state and has been able to determine the biggest opportunities there are to unify the student experience. Setting the vision for the future, he has inspired ideas for a better future state for UC and the know how to make it a reality. As Mr. Kuamka, he introduced new opportunities to black men – golf outings and performing arts excursions were some of the outcomes of a vision to grow the skills for and appreciation of new things.

ENTREPRENEURIAL – Student Brand Services – at your service! In the spring of 2015, Mitchell won seed business startup capital to start the Student Brand Services with two peers from the Bearcat Bridge Fund – awesome for his clients because Mitchell’s expertise is in branding. As a co-op at SpiceFire and FRCH Design Worldwide, he’s been able to grow this knowledge and practice it in the real world.

FRIEND – it takes a special person to be a Resident Advisor and Mitchell has been the welcoming in home face of UC to dozens of students during his time as a Siddall RA. Looked up to by peers for his work ethic and drive, Mitchell has served as a mentor formally through the African American Cultural Resource Center and in the Business Fellows program. Whether it’s getting a job or needing directions to class, Mitchell goes out of his way to help others and set a good example.

BROOKE DUNCAN

Vice President

4th Year Urban Planning Major
International Business & Marketing Minors

ACTIVE – passionate about everything she does, a change agent with a sincere heart. Brooke says she is drawn to roles where she can make a positive impact and gets others excited about doing so too. That sparked her interest in Urban Planning as a career. “Planners work behind the scenes and the public doesn’t really know all that they do to drive economic development. I love that Student Government does the same thing. We want to make the student experience better but people don’t know all that we do.”

NIMBLE – a retired swimmer turned half-marathon runner, amateur photographer, and cello player, a foodie and somehow always the hostess. Brooke is everywhere ~ you may have seen her on campus giving tours to prospective students and inspiring the next generation. Named “servant leader of the year” for ROAR, Brooke is a leader by example not by title. She’s on the Student Activities Board, loves going to CHAARG and planned the most successful Philanthropy events and fundraisers Kappa Kappa Gamma has ever seen to support Reading is Fundamental.

FEARLESS – Brooke is going to change the world. She has changed UC, the local community and the lives of people around the world. She dove headfirst into travel as a freshman and went to India to learn about anti-trafficking organizations in New Delhi, Bangalore, Mysore, and Goa. Upon return, she stepped up as the UC liaison for the Aruna Project and has helped fund the rescue of 5 women in southern Asia. She has served in Haiti, explored the Yucatan, toured Israel and spent the summer living in France finishing her business double-minor.

INNOVATIVE – as the President of Sigma Phi Women’s Honorary, Brooke started their first scholarship award for a deserving woman that will re-occur each year. She started a SG/ROAR bus tour to introduce students to Cincinnati who just moved to UC for school anddd she organized Kappa’s first service trip to the Navajo Nation leading a dozen peers to Arizona for a week of service and immersion.
